That last comment put a smile on my face…

Une fois n’est pas coutûme le post de ce soir sera en Anglais pour mes amis “up north” 😉

So back to the title : living dangerously… well as far as my stomach goes. I’ve never been (except of course 2 years ago when we were in this same city) feeling so secure. Paris feels like being in a middle of a war zone compared to Tokyo (even when it gets amazingly busy)…

Two choices when you rent a flat : you eat out or you cook (the kitchen is fully equipped and functional). The second option implies going to the local mini-supermarket which, by the way, are easily found : you have one every 100 meters. Finding a “family mart”, a “seven eleven” or a “Lawson” is definitively not a problem. The problem jumps to your face when you push the door. Culture differences is at its paroxysm. One word out of hundreds is understandable, and it is nearly impossible to rely solely on pictures.

So far, we have only mastered the breakfast : easily done with a Kellog’s logo, some strawberries jam, honey and some slices of bread… the milk is trickier (unless you found the picture of a cow on the packaging or it can quickly turn out to be of some soya variety)… We had to rely on a picture (at least something looking like it) to found the butter (with success). Coffee or tea was like home (at least for the brands).

From time to time (well in nearly every shops selling some eatable goods) we indulge ourselves with something pick for no logical reasons : tonight adventure (one of the four on the picture) was an Haagen Dazs ice cream with a purple something called “murasaki imo”. Interesting poped into our minds… and a strange flavor (never experienced before) followed. Back to the wifi connection of the flat, Google pulls a “purple sweet potatoes” and… why not ?

Here are some randoms picture of some of the dishes experienced so far…

Tomorrow we catch up with Jean Marc, Nathalie and all 4 kids not far from our apartment in the Ikebukuro district. They are landing in japan tomorrow in one of their many stops around their World Tour (read more there : https://worldtour2012.eolee.fr)

Oyasuminasai everyone !
